Our Calgary MQG members are a generous bunch! Plus we love the community aspect of getting together and sewing in community. We've had a lot of activity on this front over the past few months, so wanted to share updates!
Community Giving Sew Day
Our fall community sew day was a success! We met at the Dalhousie Community Association, and with a small but dedicated group of volunteers, put together a couple of tops and several Christmas Placemats for Meals on Wheels
Christmas Placemats for Meals on Wheels
Our community giving co-ordinator was busy over the last few weeks, deliverying 70 placemats to Meals on Wheels. The placemats bring a bit of Christmas cheers to isolated seniors, and are distributed on MOW's regular schedule and routes.
Blocks for Good - Part 1 - Quilts For Everyday Heroes
Our first set of Blocks for Good was the Intersection block. Our collection period extended over our first Calgary MQG Quilt Retreat, so we got a lot of interest. Thanks to guild member Charlene, who laid out all of the blocks and created the top for us. This quilt is designated to go to Quilts For Everyday Heroes, who create quilts for first responders experiencing PTSD and other work related trauma.
Community Giving Quilts - Sonshine Community Services
Finally, a drop off of several quilts at Sonshine Community Services, who work provide transitional housing for domestic violence survivors.
It's been a busy 2022, and we look forward to more community projects in 2023!
