Mini quilt exchange with the Ottawa MQG!

The Calgary MQG is partnering with the Ottawa MQG for a mini quilt swap! The mini must be completed by May, and will be collected and sent by the guild to Ottawa in one package. Sign-up on the form via email.

Rules:

• Size & Shape Rules

  • Maximum Perimeter: The total perimeter (the measurement all the way around the outside edge) must be 60 inches or less.

  •  Shape Freedom: Your mini quilt can be any shape you like! Square (e.g., 15"x15"), rectangular (e.g., 10"x20"), circular (~19" diameter), or completely asymmetrical designs are all welcome.

  • Constraint Rule: Your quilt can be smaller than 60" total perimeter, but it absolutely cannot exceed it.

• Modern Aesthetic & Construction

  • Modern Design Focus: Embrace modern quilting elements like negative space, minimalism, organic improv piecing, or high-contrast colour palettes.

  • Design is half the fun! Design your own mini, adapt an existing pattern or use a commercial pattern. Change up colours, fabrics or scale to make it your own modern masterpiece.

  • Three-Layer Requirement: The project must be a true quilt consisting of three layers (top, batting, and backing) securely held together with machine or hand quilting.

  • Finishing & Labelling: Finish with a neat binding or facing. Attach a sleeve or corner pockets on the back for wall display. Securely label with your name, guild, year (2027), and swap name.
