🌼 Calgary MQG Summer Challenge 2025: Flower Power in Miniature! 🌼
Summer is on its way, and that means it’s time for a fresh and creative challenge to keep your quilting mojo blooming all season long! We’re thrilled to announce the Calgary Modern Quilt Guild’s 2025 Summer Challenge, and it’s all about flowers, colour, and creativity—in miniature.
🧵 The Challenge:
Create a mini quilt no larger than 18" x 18" inspired by the theme: FLOWERS.
Whether it’s a bold modern bloom, a delicate garden of appliqué petals, or an abstract improv take on a floral motif—your imagination is the limit. You can use any quilting technique you love (or want to try!): ✂️ Improv piecing 📐 Paper piecing 🧵 Appliqué 🪡 Traditional blocks with a modern twist …or mix and match!

🎨 The Colour Twist:
Here’s where it gets extra fun! Your palette will be a surprise—you’ll draw three coloured markers from a bag at our June guild meeting, and those are the colours you’ll use in your mini quilt. (Neutrals like white, black, grey, and cream are allowed as accents.)
Can’t make the June meeting? No problem! You can either:
Contact Faye at faye.byard@gmail.com to receive a random colour selection, or
Make your own random draw at home—just keep it spontaneous and fun!
🗓 Important Dates:
June Guild Meeting: Draw your 3 random colours
Summer Break: Sew, quilt, and let your creativity blossom
September Guild Meeting: Reveal your mini masterpiece!

🏆 What to Expect:
We’ll display all completed mini quilts at the September meeting for a fun and inspiring Show & Share. It’s a great opportunity to see how everyone interprets the theme and colours in their own modern quilting style.

We can’t wait to see your fresh takes on flowers—whether they’re bold and graphic, soft and delicate, or quirky and abstract. So grab your sketchbook, prep your sewing machine, and get ready for some floral fun!
Let the summer creativity begin! 🌸🌿
