Block Lotto - March 2024

A-Tisket, A-Tasket, a lovely Easter basket!

For this month's Block Lotto we will be drawing inspiration from a basket of pastel Easter eggs.

This month's block will also help you use up those small scraps you've been saving. So dig into your stash and pick out all those blue, pink, yellow, green, and purple pastels. The block uses 2.5" squares, a perfect use for mini charms!

The pattern is 'Partial to Scraps! by Krista Moser of The Quilted Life. A link to her post can be found here: Partial to Scraps! Instructions

We will be using pastel coloured 2.5" squares put together in a four patch. For the border, we'll be using black and white prints. Striped prints or directional prints will really showcase the partial seam effect, but any black and white print will do the trick. Just make sure that all 4 of your border pieces are the same print. When it comes to adding the rail or border pieces, this block uses partial seams. Have you ever done anything with partial seams? If not, you'll soon find out that it is an easy way to give a bit of a unique look to your blocks.

Each block ends up being 6.5" square and there will be many fun ways the winner of these blocks can choose to create a beautiful layout. Every set of 2 blocks earns you an entry into the draw!

General Block Lotto Rules

  1.  Make two quilt blocks (or many) following the pattern and colour scheme outlined in the lotto announcement blog post. For every two blocks you make and bring to the following month's meeting, you will get one entry in the lotto. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but really want to participate in the lotto, ask a friend to get your blocks to the meeting, but make sure they are named so we can properly account for your blocks.

  2. The winner gets all the blocks to make a quilted project from them (We may hold a vote to split up the blocks between more than one winner if there are enough entries). If you win, the blocks become yours and you can use them in any way you choose. You may only win one group per lotto.

  3. We would love to see your finished project, either in person or in pictures, once you are done.

  4. Use modern fabrics that you like or love! If you are unsure about your fabric selection as it relates to "Modern" please ask.

  5. Have fun! Keep in mind that (most likely) someone else will be taking home your blocks to incorporate into a larger piece and things must fit together (literally, ...so keeping your blocks true to size is probably the most important thing), but you should also make it yours and enjoy the process.

  6. Remember, you must be a member of the Calgary Modern Quilt Guild to participate.
