Blocks will be collected at the monthly CMQG meetings until January 2026
We’ve found another great way to use your scraps—this fun little house block! ✂️ There are many patterns out there, but we’ve chosen this one for its simplicity and charm.
👉 Follow the YouTube tutorial by Quilting in the Loft (May 2, 2021) for step-by-step instructions.
These cheerful houses will come together into a warm quilt for our Community Giving program. 💛 We’ll be collecting blocks until January.

Fabrics: Please use quality quilting cotton in any colour or pattern for the house and details, and white fabric that reads as white or a white-on-white print for the sky. To keep quilts flexible for recipient organizations, avoid prints with problematic content (weapons, gambling, alcohol, religious symbols, etc.).
Cutting Instructions:
This pattern uses 4 fabrics for each house block:
Fabric A: House: Cut 2 - 2” X 3” pieces for walls
Cut 1 1 1/2 “X 4 1/2 “top of house
Fabric B: Door Cut 1 1 ½” X 3 “
Fabric C: Roof Cut 1 2 ½” X 4 ½”
Fabric D Background/sky Cut 2 2 ½ “X 2 ½” squares (Use white or white on white) fabric
Sewing Instructions:
Roof
Draw a diagonal line across the 2 ½″ white fabric squares.
Sew one square to each side of the roof fabric to create a peaked roof.
Trim and press after adding each side.
Trim roof unit to 2 ½″ × 4 ½″.
House
Sew each 2″ × 3″ piece to the 1 ½″ × 3″ door fabric.
Add the 1 ½″ × 4 ½″ piece to the top of the house.
Finish
Sew the roof unit onto the house unit.
Final block size: 4 ½″ × 6″.
Tree Blocks
You can add some variety to the quilt by making a tree block. Here’s how:
Tree Top
Cut 2 pieces of green fabric, 2 ½″ × 4 ½″.
Cut 4 squares of white fabric, 2 ½″ square.
Sew the 2 green pieces in the same manner as making the roof tops.
Tree Trunk
Cut 1 piece of white fabric, 2 ½″ × 4 ½″.
Cut 1 piece of brown fabric, 1″ × 2 ½″.
Cut the white fabric in half vertically and insert the brown trunk.
Add this piece to the bottom of the tree top.
Finish
Trim block to 4 ½″ × 6″.
Note: To make things easier for members who put the quilt top together, consider sewing a strip of 4 unique house blocks together.
