If you're anything like me, you eagerly look forward to the promise of summer - long days and warm weather, only to find a time/space warp between late June and mid-August. Nonetheless, here we are, and it's a good time to get moving on next year's QuiltCon Community Challenge Quilt! We've had several people submit ideas, blocks and other suggestions for the quilt, and if you'd like to discuss, please come early (6:15pm) to next Thursday's meeting, and we'll work through how to proceed.
First up - what is the challenge quilt? Each year the MQG issues a challenge to all member guilds and collections of members to create a quilt using a defined colour palette and prompt. This year, the colour scheme involves mauves, teals, and yellows, and the prompt is "Symmetry". Quilts must be between 60 and 65" wide, and 80-85" long.
The Calgary MQG has a long tradition of participating in the challenge, and we know that this year's quilt will be just as great!
QuiltCon Quilts from 2023, 2022 and 2021
Each guild or group will construct a quilt, and all of the quilts will hang as a group at QuiltCon 2024 in Raleigh, NC. It's a chance to work on the quilt with other people in the guild, hopefully making some connections and new friends in the process! Plus, even if you're not attending QuiltCon, it's nice to see your work represented as you see all of the quilty goodness from the event.
Below are the six versions of a quilt that have been rendered so far- and we'd love to hear your ideas as well! If you can't make the meeting or if you need help, please connect with us via email.
